Green Cafe in New York City

We made a reservation for 2:00 and we were seated at 2:20 (that did not bother us, we know they are busy and we expected it. Maybe reserve a bit earlier, if you have to be somewhere to be after) The restaurant was decorated for Christmas, nice and festive! The service was quick! We ordered a shaved sirloin sandwich, and the side of Truffle mac&cheese (yes! That is a side! Yes, that is a Table spoon!) it was my birthday and they gifted a beautiful slice of birthday cake! Our server was Sawyer, and he was the best!! He even gave us Broadway ticket recommendations! For sure recommend!

Pricey, but worth it!Location, Location Location! It was 70* and sunny in March and this was the PERFECT spot for lunch. Loved this building. It is beautifully restored. The food was absolutely delicious. And our service was delightful - funny and cheerful to match the day but upscale enough to match the building.

Go eat here! I loved the food, service, atmosphere, and unique dishes. This is a gem. I've had French toast for brunch numerous times but no other restaurant even compares to this place. Dont skip the appetizers and get the bacon. It was so good my wife was googling how I can make it for her back at home. Our waitress was a bit cold starting out but when prompted offered those recommendations which were spot on, after that she was friendly and attentive. I'm so glad we stopped here without a reservation and made it in. What a great experience and dining moment.

Outside bar on a pristine March day. 68 degrees. Always enjoy a walk to this resort-like oasis from our home a few blocks away.Wonderfully knowledgeable and friendly bartenders and staff. Great drinks, wine, beer, flat bread, apps. Especially appreciate that they don't allow dogs. Thank you!!! A perfect birthday afternoon.

A great place to eat. A fantastic setting, a great atmosphere, superb attentive and friendly staff. Food choices are good. Quality second to none. Its definitely not the cheapest place to eat, but you are in New York's Central Park. What you get is a unique setting, good food and brilliant service. I came here before lock down and can't wait to return.

The Tavern On the Green impressed us tonight! Our experience was immersed with a beautiful venue, lighted garden, living room, and excellent plates. Hats off to the dining staff for going above and beyond. They were knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive to your experience. On top of the services rendered tonight, was how well the kitchen prepared the entrees. My lamb was one of the best I’ve had. It was soft, medium, and seared with butter and herbs. The black truffle macaroni was an adventure in itself. I might come back for lunch just to eat it. If you are reading this you should go. I’m coming back.

Restaurant was fresh and bright, waitress was great, gift shop was adorable. The buyer is clearly good at his/her job! Here is my icing on the cake though - I debated on buying a sheep Christmas ornament (knowing I didn't NEED it but it was so cute and I love sheep). I carried it all around new york city safely. The next day at the airport, my shopping bag with the sheep fell out of our taxi and broke. I was sooooo disappointed. I emailed the gift store and they sent me a new one free of charge. Y'all, that is customer service!! Made me so happy! These people are good at what they do!! Thank you, Tavern on the Green, for a great eating and SHOPPING experience!

Absolutely amazing experience! Sometimes in New York although beautiful, service can be short and less friendly that what we are used to in Canada but Tavern on the Green felt like a beautiful home away from home in the fanciest way! With a picturesque glass greenhouse style dining room, gorgeous white furniture, and delicious brunch options - I would recommend Tavern on the Green in a heartbeat! Our server Amanda made the experience even more special with her tailored suggestions and she understood and met our dietary needs perfectly! Will be visiting again! Thanks Amanda!

The big screen over the bar also shows movies and on this night, Edward Scissorhands was the pick - nice! Classic. Speaking of the bar, it featured a good mix of beer and a couple ciders. Cocktails are not Brewcade's strong suite (hence the name?) but the bartender is very nice and will definitely try to find you something to enjoy (many friends opted for a strawberry cider - too sweet for me, but totally masks the alcohol). They also have a menu printed that is way easier to read than the neon board on the wall - so ask for that.

Absolutely wonderful seafood. Our group particularly enjoyed the steamed New Zealand mussels , and the fish and chips.

We were there last August 2019, for my sweeties birthday. He had never been their, and I wanted his day to be special just like him! So reservations were made, and our experience began. From the friendly young Hostesses at front foyer, to the perfect table, where we were escorted to by none other than the Manager, our extraordinary Server who was knowledgeable, attentive, professional and one of the Best Ever! He never allowed a crumb to linger more than a couple of minutes. The Chefs'provided us with tasty pallet happy food, and the vibe and sunshine in the Atrium made me fall in love all over again with this magnificent place! I hadn't been there in more than 15 years, but boy it was worth the wait! I've been to Europe, the South and up North futher than New York, and my Restaurant Love 💘 is, and will always be, Tavern On the Green.Keep up the great work!

I celebrated my wife’s birthday at the Tavern with ten family members. The attention I received from the moment I entered was extraordinary!! The manager (Kennedy) was amazing. She made my family and I feel very special. In addition, the food was excellent, and our waiter was the best. I have always been a huge fan of Tavern on the Green, my wife and I were married at the Tavern twenty four years ago. The Tavern is still number one. I look forward to more special events at the Tavern on the Green.

Tavern on the Green exceeded all my expectations! The location just inside Central Park is convenient, and the glass walls provide great views of the park! The pork chop I ordered was excellent, and the sides of potatoes and greens were good as well. The true highlight was the wait staff who went above and beyond to make our night special. I highly recommend Tavern on the Green as a place to celebrate a big occasion!

Went for restaurant week. As a disclaimer, I am vegetarian - and I was shocked to see what this restaurant claims to be their vegetarian option. Note there is only 1 vegetarian option on the menu, which would be fine if it was actually a meal/worth it. For my vegetarian entree I received an actual plate of carrots. That’s it. Like 20 slices of roasted carrots. On a plate. No sides. Just rude. My other guests had the chicken and short rib. Both were ok according to them - nothing special. Best part of the entire meal was the warm bread and butter. Service was great, everyone was very welcoming and nice. But, for this place to be so renowned as a NYC institution and to have the only non meat option be a plate of bland carrots is insulting, non creative, and just not a good reflection of the amazing food options in the city. Go elsewhere to enjoy NYC dining!

New Ramen place opening near home. Wanted to like it even if it wasn't as good as Pasadena or South Pasadena. Very happy, It's better. The broth (one tried the tonkatsu , the other tried the shoyu both were great),as was the chashu and the other toppings. Need to return to try some other dishes. Solo and Justin so nice and helpful.

Exactly what we were looking for. Great food and drinks, nice options for Margaritas and plenty of chips and salsa brought to the table. Either ordering delivery or dining at their they've been great, both in service and food quality.

Outdoor dining was great. I had the risotto and it was really good, maybe spectacular. I've lived in the North bay and this was the first time here, maybe I shouldn't try to avoid Pier 39 so much. Definitely recommend

We had an excellent experience at Tavern on the Green tonight. We had the Manhattan Clam Chowder, Salmon and Rack of Lamb. All excellent. We also ordered the peanut butter lava cake and the alcoholic hot chocolate. Both were delicious. When we told our waiter it was our 45th anniversary he comped us our dessert. The restaurant is decorated so beautifully for the holidays.

Beautiful iconic restaurant. We walked in and requested a table in the main dining room for lunch and ten minutes later it was ready! The food was good and service excellent. It was wonderful to be treated well considering we were tourists and dressed casually. This is not one of those snooty pretentious establishments. Tavern On The Green was the icing on the cake of our lovely trip to New York. Will return, thank you.

Major mistake making reservations for Thanksgiving and keep in mind that my expectations were low. Embarrassingly pedestrian fare that was an obvious tourist trap and money grab. Food just has to be passable because you $$ for the experience.This was my experience...they made me fight tooth and nail avoid seating us in the bar...until I threatened to walk; then multiple desirable tables appeared. Then the waiter was a passive aggressive jerk (let it be noted I did observe courteous and respectful waiters serving other tables near ours.New Yorkers hate getting caught in tourist traps in their city. On Thanksgiving, the Tavern had no shame (who approved this menu? Only the Turkey itself was passable.I'm angry, I'll never eat here again. It's only a place to have drinks

Max gave us fantastic service. Had the steak flat bread and cheesecake for dessert. Delicious! Wish I didn't live so far away. But checked off a bucket list item by dining here during the holidays. ❤❤

Great venue. Beautiful restaurant. Food was quality, a little over priced for the menu, service was above average. Great family venue for a quality meal with great service.

We can’t speak highly enough of Kerry and her team at Tavern. The entire events team were extremely attentive, professional, and helpful throughout our wedding planning process. Our guests were overwhelmed with the level of service and attention to detail.Kerry was the partner of our dreams from day 1, going above and beyond to ensure that our vision for our wedding Reception was executed perfectly. There is no better venue in New York to host an elegant event and we can’t recommend Tavern enthusiastically enough.A special thank you and acknowledgement to Kerry, Ryan, and our Events Captains for making every detail perfect.

Service started awesome. Smiles and he was on it. However, once food and drink arrived perfect and timely no return for a beer I maybe would of got. Skinny Marg outstanding. Veg Fajitas good. Way to improve - less onion. A lot less onion. Overall happy. And no refill on Salsa that rocked! Oh one more thing, you don't tip on tax so your receipt is incorrect on tip suggestions when you put the percent.

I have passed this place many times heading to Strawberry Fields. Finally decided to give it a try. I do recommend making a reservation. Its so charming, and everyone who worked their was super friendly. They have a complimentary coat check, which was great since it was cold and we were so bundled up. There is also an adorable small gift shop as well with different and unique NYC treasures to take back home. We went fir brunch and honestly I am still thinking of the food! It was tasty and plenty of it. Our server was so friendly and helpful. We will be returning very soon!

My husband and I celebrated my birthday in Manhattan and we went to Tavern on the Green for dinner. It was disappointing. I ordered the lobster dish, hey my birthday and I love lobster and when it arrived I was so surprised, where's the lobster??? The couple ounces of lobster embedded in a lot rice, PLEASE...and my meal was the most expensive dinner on the menu. Not GOOD.On a positive Note..the service was attentive and pleasant during our visit from the greeting to the thank you for coming.

Really like the warm ambiance and the classic decor of the place! I think it’s a great romantic spot to have drinks or brunch! I’ve come here twice for breakfast and I will have to say I had a better experience this time, than my last time. I enjoyed the food so much more! I had the avocado poached eggs, the bread basket, and the yogurt. And it was delicious! The last time, I had the burger and was disappointed because the meat was over cooked and dry. However, I am really glad I gave it another chance and for sure would come back again. The staff was super kind and our waiter, Robert, provided a great service!

Tavern on the Green is an absolute gem in Central Park. If you are looking for a real once in a lifetime experience you must try this fabulous restaurant. Not only is the food and atmosphere amazing but it’s historical importance especially in the movie industry is incredible. Many films have been shot here including Ghost Busters, Mr Poppers Penguins and Wall Street just to name a few.

Went in without a reservation and was seated by the bar. To be honest, our first waitress was nice enough and knew the menu, but seemed to not be on top of everything. Then we asked to be moved to another room, and we were blown away. We were seated in their South Room and our server, who I think was named Jacob, had a great sense of humor and service. The signature lamb is a must have and the truffle Mac and cheese could be sold by the pound. Varied dessert selection and great mixed drinks, too. Would definitely come back to be greeted by the Top Hat, the job title of their official doorman!

What's not to love, iconic NYC, and what better place is there at the holidays! Festive, tastefully decorated. Great service, brunch menu had something for everyone. Food was excellent as was our server. We will be back!

Attended my friend Stephanie's wedding reception here many years ago..1967 or so! We were neighbors in riverdale the Bronx and attended Walton HS. We cut class one day and saw Natalie Wood filming a riding scene in Central Park! The ambience and food served at the Tavern was exquisite! Left NYC in 1983 ! If I return for a visit I will enjoy dining here again!

I took my wife here last night for her very first time. I had been here many years ago and always remembered that it was a lovely place with such history. Well I looked over at her and she was a bit teary from happiness. The food was impeccable, our waiter was more than gracious and the surprise birthday cake was everything to her. Thank you for such a great experience. You all made me look really good.

Timeless and beautiful. I'm so happy it reopened. Delicious crab cocktail and apple tart. Lobster pot pie was "good", not to insult the chef. We walked right up from Central Park, were quickly seated and served. If you don't want to spend the time nor money on a dinner here, at least share the experience and an appetizer or dessert and coffee with a friend or two. It's a wonderful big apple experience.

The only thing I don't super like about this restaurant is the restaurant itself isn't super spacious and the servers usually would try to cram as many customers as possible - you may end up sitting at a big table with a bunch of strangers. So, it's not the best dining experience in my opinion. I'd prefer getting takeouts from this place.

This is a great place to take guests from out of town. The restaurant is amazing, the service is pretty good, and the food is good for the price. It won't necessarily be the best meal you ever had, but the setting is so unique you wont forget it.

The tavern on the green is a wonderful place to eat. The it is bright vibrant and warm. When you enter the restaurant you immediately get the feel for a quaint place steeped in history. There is a wonderful circular bar and a cozy fireplace that adds to the atmosphere and helps to heat you up while you wait to be seated. The restaurant itself is bright, airy and spacious. Our waiter was very kind and provided a great service for us. As it was our wedding breakfast the waiter gave us some cake as a way of celebration for our wedding.All in all the venue was perfect 👌.

My friend and I were visiting our daughter and her family who live in Manhattan. When visiting them we always send a lot of time in Central Park which is a fantastic park. Last time we had dinner at the Boast House so it was inevitable we would have to have lunch here. Normally we would have ha dinner but we now had a baby with us so lunch was the ideal solution. We had quite an extensive range of drinks during the meal from cocktails to tea and coffee. We had a couple of starters (crab cake, yoghourt) and mains consisted of three burgers and one avocado & eggs. The desserts, which were delicious, included New York cheesecake and key lime pie. The total cost came to $245.51 excluding tips of which 65.50 was for drinks. A great venue with goo food and drinks and excellent service.

Sunday brunch at Tavern on the Green is one of my favorite things to do year-round in the city, but this was my first time at Christmastime. First of all, WAY busier than usual so make your reservations in advance and be patient as you wait for you table (recommend enjoying a seasonal drink at the amazing bar). In the spring-summer months they'll often have a jazz band out in the garden, and we love that, but this time, they had an extra indoor bar with a holiday jazz group that was absolutely perfect! Food was great, service was awesome, and the Tavern--perfect as always. Can't wait to return soon!

I had breakfast here today and it was delicious! I had hummus and falafel and both were excellent, and I want to say that the guy that served my food was so nice

Coming from the beautiful Descanso Gardens, we needed some fuel. Korean fried chicken to the rescue!Got confused at the beginning with seats but Mark helped us out. Food came out promptly and it tasted delicious.Can never go wrong with KFC and beer.

Came here to celebrate my birthday brunch. It is an iconic New York restaurant. So I was excited to spend the morning with my bestfriend. But was quite disappointed with service and food. The French Toast was good. The tomato soup was okay. But the steak and eggs were cold and tasted like something from a hotel restaurant. Nothing spectacular. The service was the same. She forgot to give us salt, pepper and sugar. Then she didn't give us the drinks we ordered. I finally had to wave down another waiter and they finally came while we were finishing our meal (at the end). I saw our waiter spending more time flirting with other staff then actually waiting on tables.So I guess the price you pay is for the atmosphere which is spectacular. Especially if you are seated in the green house/glass area. Maybe dinner is better quality? And maybe those servers are more attentive.

Loved the place. You can make a reservation via open table. Sometimes dress code needed. Great location to see Central Park. In the summertime they have outside area. Reasonable prices for lunch. Worth dining there!

Please don't be afraid to visit. Ideal location . You would think it expensive, we didn't eat so can't say how expensive food is. but too sit at bar was just like any bar price wise in New York. Lovely decor. Bar staff excellent. Please try. 😃😃😃

The drinks are good and despite it being a popular bar, you won't have to wait long for a drink since the bartenders are attentive and there's a bar cart on the move as well. The pizzas were fresh out of the oven (margarita, sausage, spicy Hawaiian etc) and the service was really above and beyond - you pick it up at the counter of the kitchen but an employee carried the hot pizzas for me to our table, really appreciated that.

This joint was pretty good. Loved the interiors, decor & staff functions. They served us well, timely manner & prepped food with good taste.
